We Are The Real Deal is an educational blog universe instructing today’s youths on body image, healthy coping, nutrition and self-esteem via empowering content authored by professionals from arts, wellness, nutrition, yoga and psychology.
The site’s roster of more than 40 contributors features prominent voices including body image bloggers, psychologists, therapists, poets, dancers, musicians, artists, yogis, martial artists and chefs, all converging on the site to voice unique perspectives in teaching old and young to embrace self-acceptance. Contributors from the eating disorder non-profit community include NEDA, BEDA, ANAD, NAMED, Eating for Life Alliance (ELA), and others.
WATRD’s mission is to empower girls with a “safe” space to learn about healthy body image, find her voice, and promote media literacy. The site is a program of mentalfitness, inc. — a national nonprofit that educates about mental health, eating disorders, body image and stress-management through award-winning arts and media programs.
We Are The Real Deal (aka WATRD) launched in July 2009 by Heather Blessington (aka mamaV). She graciously donated the site to mentalfitness, inc. in 2011 to help us further our mission of educating about mental health, eating disorders, body image and self-esteem through arts and mindfulness programs. MamaV encouraged mentalfitness CEO and Founder, Robyn Hussa Farrell to take the WATRD site to the next level by inviting colleagues from diverse backgrounds; including: the worlds of eating disorders, theatre, music, arts, education, activism and yoga to come together to either write about body image or about healthy ways to cope with stress. WATRD is now a massive universe with an array of perspectives, professional backgrounds and life experiences.
The goal of this body image focused blog is to provide a space where women of all shapes, sizes, colors, lifestyles, opinions, and beliefs can come together to talk, bang heads, rant and rave. Here you will hear from a wide range of individuals on the topics of eating disorders, body image, self-esteem, arts, mindfulness, healthy coping and wellness.
We have built an amazing community of contributors, bloggers, and readers who have their heart and soul into being positive about their body image — and they are achieving it. Are you?
We are glad you are here. Join us, invite your friends, stop the fat chat, and get on the path to positive body image and self esteem. Surround yourself with people that believe that health can be achieved at every size, life is not about the size of your thighs, and a scale is not a necessity.
Get involved. Save a life.
