together with the common goal of turning talk into action? You get a unique, irreverent blog that
shares opinions and sparks debate on everything from fitness and beauty to dieting and size
acceptance. You get honest answers and even more thought-provoking questions.

Veronica Noone ( have each built loyal audiences who are passionate about
many aspects of body image, including weight loss, eating disorders, fat acceptance, nutrition,
fitness, media/fashion influence, pregnancy, and parenting.
WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM is the first blog to bring those diverse voices together in an open
dialogue. The contributors might not agree on every issue, but they are united in their
commitment to help readers take steps toward healthy self-esteem and positive body image in
their “offline” lives.
To kick-start their mission, founder Heather Blessington will moderate a panel discussion with
all contributors to WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM at BlogHer, taking place at the Sheraton
Chicago on Friday, July 24th from 1:15-2:30. The session is sponsored by the Dove Campaign
for Real Beauty and is entitled “Blogs and Body Image: What Are We Teaching Our Kids?”
WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM will also invite all readers to sign the “Healthy Beauty Pledge.”

Heather Blessington (mamaV) has been blogging about body image and eating disorders
since 2006. At 16 she was a model in Paris, living every girl’s dream, which, in actuality, was a
starvation nightmare. Now a Midwestern mother of two, she is a “voice of reason” for young
women, sharing her personal stories, perspective on the media, and criticism of the fashion
industry through her blog ( and award winning YouTube channel

(NEDA), committee member of Women’s Fund, a Girl Scout Leader, and volunteer tech geek for

Carla Birnberg (MizFit) is an award-winning author and fitness expert. A onetime personal
trainer, she owned a boutique training studio, Head2Heel, in Chapel Hill, N.C. Carla also
competes in both bodybuilding and fitness including a third place finish in the 2001 NPC House
of Pain bodybuilding show. Her writing can be seen on Yahoo!Shine, in the Atkins Nutritional
monthly newsletter, Experience Life Magazine, Austin Monthly Magazine and as a monthly

Kate Harding ( is the founder of Shapely Prose, the most popular size
acceptance blog on the web, and a regular contributor to’s Broadsheet. As an expert
on body image, she’s been interviewed by CNN, The New York Times, Reuters, and CBC
Radio, among others. In 2009, Perigee books published her first book, Lessons from the Fat-o-
Sphere: Quit Dieting and Declare a Truce With Your Body (co-written with fellow blogger
Marianne Kirby), which iVillage’s Never Say Diet site calls “the ultimate fat girl’s bible, with
lessons of positive body image, healthy living, and most importantly loving yourself and being

Claire Mysko ( is a writer, speaker, and an expert on the self-esteem and
body image issues facing girls and women today. She has served as the Director of the
American Anorexia Bulimia Association, the Executive Editor of SmartGirl, and the Assistant
Director of Communications at Girls Inc. Her book, You’re Amazing! A No-Pressure Guide to
Being Your Best Self (Adams Media), was recently named to the 2009 Amelia Bloomer List of
the best feminist books for youth. She is also the co-author (with Magali Amadei) of the

Veronica Noone ( started her blog to help herself stay accountable on her
999th time trying to lose weight. Now, almost 4 years later, she not only reached her weight loss
goals, she became a mother, and left her Assistant Professor position to become a full-time
blogger. Her mission is simple: inspire and share her weight loss ideas and funny toddler tales
in order to help her readers to live a lighter, healthier life. Roni is the woman behind Roni’s
