TOP BLOGGERS UNITE TO LAUNCH “WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM”, A NEW ONLINE
SPACE FOR WOMEN TO GET REAL ABOUT BODY IMAGE ISSUES
New York, NY (July 22, 2009) What happens when five acclaimed body image writers come
together with the common goal of turning talk into action? You get a unique, irreverent blog that
shares opinions and sparks debate on everything from fitness and beauty to dieting and size
acceptance. You get honest answers and even more thought-provoking questions.
You get WEARETHEREADEAL.COM.
Founder Heather Blessington (mamaVISION.com) and contributors Carla Birnberg
(MizFitOnline.com), Kate Harding (kateharding.net), Claire Mysko (clairemysko.com), and
Veronica Noone (ronisweigh.com) have each built loyal audiences who are passionate about
many aspects of body image, including weight loss, eating disorders, fat acceptance, nutrition,
fitness, media/fashion influence, pregnancy, and parenting.
WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM is the first blog to bring those diverse voices together in an open
dialogue. The contributors might not agree on every issue, but they are united in their
commitment to help readers take steps toward healthy self-esteem and positive body image in
their “offline” lives.
To kick-start their mission, founder Heather Blessington will moderate a panel discussion with
all contributors to WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM at BlogHer, taking place at the Sheraton
Chicago on Friday, July 24th from 1:15-2:30. The session is sponsored by the Dove Campaign
for Real Beauty and is entitled “Blogs and Body Image: What Are We Teaching Our Kids?”
WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM will also invite all readers to sign the “Healthy Beauty Pledge.”
Excerpted from the forthcoming book Does This Pregnancy Make Me Look Fat? The Essential
Guide to Loving Your Body Before and After Baby (HCI Books) by Claire Mysko and Magali
Amadei, the pledge is a positive promise that every woman can make to herself and to future
generations.
WEARETHEREALDEAL.COM will continue to expand to include writing, videos, and interactive
content from today’s leading body image bloggers.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Heather Blessington (mamaV) has been blogging about body image and eating disorders
since 2006. At 16 she was a model in Paris, living every girl’s dream, which, in actuality, was a
starvation nightmare. Now a Midwestern mother of two, she is a “voice of reason” for young
women, sharing her personal stories, perspective on the media, and criticism of the fashion
industry through her blog (mamaVISION.com) and award winning YouTube channel
(youtube.com/mamavision). Heather is a speaker for the National Eating Disorder Association
(NEDA), committee member of Women’s Fund, a Girl Scout Leader, and volunteer tech geek for
Normal In Schools (NIS). She has been featured in The Onion, Parents Canada, REAL
Magazine, and USA Today online, and has been selected to serve on Oprah’s Digital blogging
network.

Radio, among others. In 2009, Perigee books published her first book, Lessons from the Fat-o-
Sphere: Quit Dieting and Declare a Truce With Your Body (co-written with fellow blogger
Marianne Kirby), which iVillage’s Never Say Diet site calls “the ultimate fat girl’s bible, with
lessons of positive body image, healthy living, and most importantly loving yourself and being
healthy in your current body and at your current weight.” Kate lives in Chicago with her husband
and two very old dogs

Claire Mysko (clairemysko.com) is a writer, speaker, and an expert on the self-esteem and
