Who Are We?

The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, Inc. is a non-profit (501 c 3) corporation that seeks to prevent and alleviate the problems of eating disorders, especially including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.
We are a nonprofit that has been dedicated to the prevention and alleviation of eating disorders since 1976.

What is Our Mission?

ANAD advocates for the development of healthy attitudes, bodies, and behaviors.
ANAD promotes eating disorder awareness, prevention and recovery through supporting,
educating, and connecting individuals, families and professionals.

What Do We Pledge?

  • I will actively participate in efforts to change media programming and advertising that exploit or demean the human body.

  • I will support programs that encourage good health through proper nutrition, regular exercise and adequate sleep.

Our History


Laura Discipio LCSW, Executive Director In addition to her role at ANAD, Laura owns a private practice in Naperville, Illinois and continues to see clients there.  Laura focuses her energy to empower individuals to overcome their obstacles so they can reach their full potential, both when she is speaking on behalf of ANAD to a large group or as a therapist to her clients in her clinical practice. After raising her family, Laura began her career in social work at Mutual Ground, and quickly became associate director. Mutual Ground is a not for profit that provides services of shelter, counseling, outreach and court advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Laura then worked at Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward as a clinical and administrative manager over the adult, adolescent and eating disorder units.   Laura has Allied Health Professional privileges at Linden Oaks at Edward and is a certified trainer for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).  Laura is a LCSW in Illinois and a professional member of ANAD, NASW, AED, and IAEDP.
