Please tell us about yourself and what you do?

I am Brendan Meyer and I am an actor. I work in film and television and also theatre. You can find out more about me on my website or on my IMDB page.

Can you tell us a bit about any upcoming projects or events that you are working on?

My movie, The Guest, is out in theaters right now and I also have a lead role on the Hallmark TV series of mystery movies, Garage Sale Mystery, starring Lori Loughlin.

Do you find the pressures of working in your industry significant with regard to feeling the need to have a “perfect” body?  If so, how do you navigate through that terrain?  How do you “not” judge yourself when others (critics, audience members, producers, etc.) “judge” you based on outward measures?

In can be hard when you are always being judged on your physical appearance. I think as long as you has inner strength and a healthy self-esteem you are able to deal with people judging your external qualities.

To follow up with that question, how do you deal with bullying or people talking negative about you? Can you give any examples of bullying in your personal life and how you handled it?

Usually people who are bullies are not happy with themselves and take it out on you. It is important to surround yourself with people who are there to support you and raise you up, rather than those who are trying to tear you down. There are times on set where people have tried to put me down and make me feel badly about myself. I tried to block those people out and focused on doing the best job I could both with my character and in my personal life. I tried to make sure I was positive and I took it as a lesson, to make sure I never treated anyone like that.

What made you want to get involved with Mental Fitness, Inc.?

My mom always says that being mentally fit is crucial to surviving the actor’s life so anything I can do to support that cause is worthwhile. I think it’s really important for people to focus on what’s inside rather than outward appearance and I think people have to be mentally strong to stay focused on living a healthy life.

Who were the role models in your life?

My family. They are all very mentally fit people and project positivity into the world.

What do you define as beautiful?

Someone who has a lot of self-confidence, but not arrogance, has a great sense of humor, and cares about how other people feel, not how they think.

How do you define inner beauty?

I think all beauty comes from within so there is no real difference between beauty and inner beauty to me.

What is happiness?

Happiness is when you can learn to be in the moment and enjoy it and not be worried about the past or present.

Would you be willing to take the Real Deal pledge?  Thoughts about that? (http://wearetherealdeal.com/about/the-real-deal-pledge/)

Definitely! I follow those principals in my everyday life all the time!

How do you manage your stress levels in daily life?  Do you use music / art / dance, etc. as a coping tool?  Are there other things that you do to live mindfully?

I listen to music. I try to make sure I get enough sleep and I eat well. I also try to spend time with my friends and family. When I feel stressed out, I talk to someone I trust.

How do you find a work-life balance — as a man, relationships, a professional — what are keys to balance?

I think it is important to realize that even though one’s ultimate goal is to be successful at one’s job, it’s important to build real and meaningful relationships, and experience life outside one’s chosen pursuit.

Brendan Meyer has working non-stop since wrapping his successful run in the titular role of Adam Young on the YTV/Disney XD series, “Mr. Young”. Meyer’s latest movie, “The Guest”, opposite Dan Stevens is in theatres right now. Catch him on Garage Sale Mystery, The 100, & Backstrom this year.
