Interview with the Queen of Hearts, Sariah: Love Yourself First

Please tell us about yourself and what you do?

I am a Pop Recording Artist, an actress, and a dancer! I follow my dreams and create music in hopes to connect with dreamers around the world 🙂

Can you tell us a bit about any upcoming projects or events that you are working on?

I JUST released my new single, “Aware, Alive, Awake!” I am so excited to be releasing an EP in November as well with all new music and a new sound! It has been a year in the making and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.

Do you find the pressures of working in your industry significant with regard to feeling the need to have a “perfect” body?  If so, how do you navigate through that terrain?  How do you “not” judge yourself when others (critics, audience members, producers, etc.) “judge” you based on outward measures?

Every single day, yes yes yes.  I have struggled with it for years as I am sure many artists do in their own way. I have created a very healthy and active lifestyle for myself but it has taken YEARS to do so. The industry certainly has changed and is now more accepting of women with curves. But it is still a battle I have in my mind every day. Loving YOU first and creating that relationship is first and foremost. It wasn’t until I learned to love myself that I became truly happy in all areas of my life, especially with my music.

To follow up with that question, how do you deal with bullying or people talking negative about you? Can you give any examples of bullying in your personal life and how you handled it?

I know we all experience this in high school and I certainly did. I made friends with everyone from all different walks of life and some people didn’t like that. Being called names, getting picked on, and negative talk made me want to change schools at times! But what seriously helps me, even to this day, is knowing that people’s judgments and negativity often comes from within themselves and their on insecurities. I am so lucky and fortunate to follow my dreams and be on my own path. Whenever someone comes and tries to put up a road block, I know it’s a mental game they are trying to play with me to throw me off path. So after meditation and songwriting, their games are in my rear view mirror!

What made you want to get involved with Mental Fitness, Inc.?

When I was a child, my Uncle committed suicide. My family has since then become very involved with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. So as soon as Jacob reached out to me I was immediately interested because health, mental illness, and fitness are all very important to me.

Who were the role models in your life?

My parents: they are and always have been. They have worked so hard to be where they are today. Their inner drive, love, and support keep me going every single day.

What do you define as beautiful?

When someone respects and loves themselves!

How do you define inner beauty?

When someone respects and loves their mind and body.

What is happiness?

Happiness is a choice. It is following your dreams and never giving up!

Would you be willing to take the Real Deal pledge?  Thoughts about that? (

ABSOLUTELY! Positive affirmations and creating a positive circle around you is the absolute best thing to do.

How do you manage your stress levels in daily life?  Do you use music / art / dance, etc. as a coping tool?  Are there other things that you do to live mindfully? How do you find a work-life balance — as a woman, relationships, a professional — what are keys to balance? Other thoughts / reflections?

Stress seems to show itself in so many ways when it comes to our mind, body, and soul. Oftentimes when we try to balance everything it seems to topple down on us. Music is my number 1 coping tool, without a doubt. Whether it’s songwriting, listening to my favorite music, or singing at the top of my lungs, it all reminds me that I am so lucky to do what I love. Without the hard times we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the best times. It is difficult living in this amazing but crazy city. You have to find time for YOU. I use exercise as my ME time and enjoy a great run, yoga class, or high cardio class. It all makes me feel myself again after stress tries to take over. The key to balance is also spending time with positive loved ones and family. Take every Sunday, for example, and be sure to treat yourself to a movie, meal, or time with those you love. It starts the week off so well.

Most importantly, love yourself first. That is what it all comes down to. Never forget to make YOUR dreams come true and believe in everything that you are. You are beautiful!
