Interview with host, Jackie Hollywood: Love What You Do

Please tell us about yourself and what you do?

My name is Jackie Palatnikov (most people know me as Jackie Hollywood), I’m 25 years old, originally from San Francisco but currently living in West Hollywood. I’ve been working in the entertainment industry for 7 years now, mostly in radio, but have done my share of tv production as well as casting, producing, etc.

Can you tell us a bit about any upcoming projects or events that you are working on?
I currently host and produce my own show called WildFire TV. WildFire TV features celebrity interviews, red carpet events, and anything and everything pop culture related.

Do you find the pressures of working in the entertainment industry significant with regard to feeling the need to have a “perfect” body?  If so, how do you navigate through that terrain?  How do you “not” judge yourself when others (critics, audience members, producers, etc.) “judge” you based on outward measures?
There is definitely pressure to look a certain way in this industry. I am constantly looking at other hosts and wondering if there’s something I need to change to be more successful, but honestly when I look in the mirror I’m happy with what I see. You gotta be otherwise that’s no way to live! The one thing I did change about my appearance in terms of hosting was taking out my piercings. I had two lip piercings and the more I was on camera, the more I realized it’s not what the industry wants… I do think maybe that will change one day, but for now I took them out! I also don’t have any visible tattoos for that reason either.
What made you want to get involved with Mental Fitness, Inc.?
When approached by Mental Fitness, I was honored. I am all about non profit organizations that are out there to help people feel better about themselves in any way possible. If there are any positive words I can say to help even one person out there, then I have done my job!
Who were the role models in your life?
Growing up, my family have always been role models for me. Even though I’m first generation America (my family is from Russia) and they see things a different way than I do, they still support me through my entertainment career journey (which isn’t always so simple). My host role models are Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah, Tyra Banks, Jenny Jones, Jerry Springer, Erin Andrews and the list goes on!
What do you define as beautiful?
To me beauty is seen initially from the outside, so of course accentuating your best assets are important! Got pretty and big eyes? Wear some mascara to make them pop. Have nice juicy lips? Try a bright lip color some time. Wearing the right size is important too— don’t wear clothes that are too loose or too tight!
How do you define inner beauty?
Inner beauty is what shines through and shows your personality. Someone who is happy and smiles is someone who is beautiful. Having confidence is beautiful as well— you want to try to wear something daring? Just rock it and it’ll work!
What is happiness?
Happiness is what you make it! If you love yourself, everyone else will love you. If you wake up in the morning and are ready to start your day, that is true happiness. Not worrying what others think of you and having confidence and goals is really important as well.
Would you be willing to take the Real Deal pledge?  Thoughts about that? (http://wearetherealdeal.com/about/the-real-deal-pledge/)
I will take the real deal pledge! I think it’s beautiful 🙂
How do you manage your stress levels in daily life?  Do you use music / art / dance, etc. as a coping tool?  Are there other things that you do to live mindfully?
I manage my stress by breathing. It’s so important to breathe slowly and deeply to calm yourself down. Music helps a lot too and talking to friends! It’s very therapeutic.
How do you find a work-life balance — as a woman, relationships, a professional — what are keys to balance?
My work-life balance is pretty simple. I love what I do and my career IS my life, so they balance each other out very well. You have to love what you do and then everything else comes after.
