Miss Kentucky Teen USA 2014 “I’m a Model and I’m Not Popular”

We met up with Megan Ducharm, Miss Kentucky Teen, for a #RealDeal interview.

It pisses me off that I have to be famous or naked to get noticed. Famous is unrealistic and naked won’t happen unless someone bribes me with an ever-regenerating Michelin Man made of sprinkled donuts. And no one would even want to see me naked after I got my hands on an ever-regenerating Michelin Man made of sprinkled donuts…So there goes my loophole to fame. Unless that’s how Kim landed her playboy spread…?

Dying and leaving behind a mushroom-cloud-making, earth-shattering, Jurassic-Park-Oh-Crap-That-Tyrannosaurs-Rex-Is-Coming-And-That-Glass-Of-Water-Is-Vibrating Legacy is a good, solid goal to have. Not that everyone can do it though, because then we’d have like fifty billion legacies floating around and let’s be honest, Morgan Freeman isn’t going to pull a Benjamin Button anytime soon. I want to leave behind a legacy. And I don’t want it to be a lame legacy that just gets manufactured into witty bumper stickers. I want my legacy to be so friggin’ cool. Or sexy. Cool or sexy. Like, I want my legacy to be as cool and sexy as Pierce Brosnan saying ‘Bond. James Bond’. Stop looking at me like that! Sex sells.

Megan Ducharm, model, inspiration, imperfections, body, popularity, loneliness, labels,

So now I’m back to square one because I barely have 400 Instagram followers, Hostess Man hasn’t arrived yet, and Pierce was a jerk that night so I threw out his number…I know, shut up. I’m stupid. Maybe if I broke my two-seflies-can’t-touch-on-IG rule, I’d get more likes. Or maybe if wore drop-crotch diaper pants I’d be more popular. Or maybe if I posted an inspirational quote with my cleavage people would think it’s about the message; not my boobs and I’d gain tons of followers…Sigh. Getting noticed is so hard. Eh, screw it.

I don’t really care anymore. I’m going to be me: The outspoken girl who makes stupid references that nobody understands! Okay, usually what follows a semi colon sounds like what the cast of 300 looks like, but whatever.

I refuse to waste my time fitting into a mold that society says I must be in, in order to be cool. The only mold I need to fit in, is my own. Even if my mold actually contains real mold because it’s just me in there. I’m going to continue being myself because what I have to say is important. Even I risk being seen as ‘uncool’, losing followers, or feeling embarrassed because my post only received three likes and one un-like. Ouch, that hurts… So much.

I refuse to let my job title as a ‘model’ become a popular label that predetermines who I am and what I do. I refuse to be remembered as only a ‘beauty queen’. I am so much more. I am a young woman with a beautiful mind who has strong thoughts about the world. Who believes it doesn’t make you cooler, more respected, or more beautiful to post your cleavage all over the internet. Who believes that we should stop comparing our boobs to other people’s boobs?

Who believes if you’re feeling really hot today, you should totally take a selfie. Who believes that we need to stop preaching confidence and then putting girls down for loving themselves? Who believes you define beauty; not the media. Who believes shopping at Goodwill is kind of genius. Who believes you don’t need a boyfriend or girlfriend to be complete. Who believes you don’t have to have casual sex or get turnt up to have fun. Who believes verbal abuse is just as serious as physical abuse. Who believes depression is real and suicide is not the answer.

Who believes MODESTY is DARING. HUMOR is SEXY. PERFECTION is FLAWED. MODELING is OVERRATED. FILTERS are UNNECESSARY. EATING is AWESOME. SKINNY is BEAUTIFUL. CURVES are GORGEOUS. HEALTH is IMPORTANT. VIDEO GAMES are COOL. SEXUAL ORIENTATION, SKIN COLOR and RELIGION are IRRELEVANTDISABILITIES are BLESSINGS. FAME is MEANINGLESS. RUMORS are LIES. And YOU ARE PERFECT.
