*Yes, as of this year, there are now SIX types! (AN = Anorexia Nervosa, BN = Bulimia Nervosa, BED = Binge Eating Disorder, OSFED = Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder, ARFID = Avoidant / Restrictive Food Intake Disorder or UFED = Unspecified Feeding or Eating Disorder). All eating disorders are the most deadly and complex of all psychiatric illnesses and require treatment from a team of qualified professionals. We strongly encourage anyone who may need help to find a professional who is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) or someone who is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders (FAED). These qualifications should be listed after the name of a medical doctor, nurse, registered dietician or licensed psychotherapist — they could literally make all the difference in a patient’s recovery journey. Find a professional in your area by searching on the AED and IAEDP websites.
